Burger Records new festival "Burger a-Go-Go" featured 35 female driven acts, which as a feminist, I can say, is pretty damn cool.
We arrived to the concert around 2:45 and spent most of the day(and night/early next morning) at the main stage whose lineup created a steady flow of kick ass punk rock bands, highlighting that girls can be just as represented as boys if Burger Records has anything to do with it. The sets that I was most excited for were Lovely Bad Things(who were added on as a last minute surprise: hell yeah!), Summer Twins, The Aquadolls, Shannon and the Clams, Bleached, and of course Best Coast. Getting good pictures and video was not a priority just because I knew that I was going to want to dance along to my favorite bands but I managed to get a few(sorry for bad sound quality).
The Lovely Bad Things have quickly become one of my favorite bands, mostly because their members are equally as rad as the songs they deliver. It took my brother and I trying to get the crowd as pumped as we were, but after about the third song a good number of people got the energy started, which would only continue to rise for every band that followed. I bought their latest album "The Late Great Whatever" which now that I've played, I can tell you, sounds so sick on vinyl!

cheesin' it with Lauren and Brayden after their set
The Aquadolls were next and front woman Melissa Brooks' live vocals were incredible to say the least! She had, in my opinion, one of the best vocal performances of the night. I wasn't in the pit for their set because I was stuck holding my brother's burger(ha-ha... burger.... okay never mind), but I got to watch the people who were in the pit react and they were not disappointed! The best reaction was when they performed their hit "Wander" and I was dancing and singing along as well, even though the couple next to me look slightly annoyed. My brother and I got pictures with Mel after the set at the merch table and she was so sweet.

I didn't get to see much of the Summer Twins set because I was running around doing who knows what but their set definitely got a lot of attention and can we talk about their outfits because that's something I totally appreciated as well.
I think it's pretty clear to say that Shannon and the Clams stole the entire show. Their sound is extremely reminiscent of 1950's oldies, and 1960's girl groups, and brought a nice change of pace to the night. I watched their set from the balcony along with a couple of friends I met about an hour before who appreciated their music as much as I did. "You Can Come Over" definitely had my heart. By the end of their set there was about 50+ people on stage dancing with them complete with white sheet draped "ghosts".

Best Coast hit the stage around 12:30 A.M. and I can't believe I made it through the day. If you are not familiar with Best Coast, the band is led by Bethany Cosentino who sings all the cheesy yet honest lyrics we're all scared to share with the world. I grew up listening to Best Coast and although I had seen them twice before, something about this show was special. The best part of music is singing along to certain songs and realizing that you are not alone. Best Coast brings a kind of comfort in such an enjoyable way that's relatable to almost everyone. The band also played a brand new song for us and it did not disappoint. It stuck true to their sound but had a much more complex feel to it which was really cool to hear.
When talking to my brother after Burgerama III and Burger a-Go-Go I realized that the most worthy thing to note is that whenever you go to a Burger show you can't help but feel at home. The atmosphere is almost completely free of pretentious people who's only goal seems to be appearing better than you. I noticed myself stepping out of my comfort zone to talk to people, even if the conversation lasted about a minute. I gave and received so many compliments and it was quite refreshing. Good experiences like that make you realize that that's exactly how a show should be.
